Physical and outdoor education

Children will attend physical education lessons on a regular basis.

The early years of this program at Thomas Mitchell are designed to develop skills and familiarise all children with a wide range of equipment.

Activities children participate in include: dance, movement, gymnastics and ball handling. Older children are involved in interschool sport including swimming and athletics carnivals.

At Thomas Mitchell our gymnasium is extensively used during sport sessions.

Other outdoor facilities include an articial turf play area and soccer pitch, a running track, basketball and netball courts, covered sandpit and two playgrounds.

School House Colors / Points System

All students are allocated to a house upon entry to the school. Our house colours are as follows:

  • BRADMAN HOUSE - RED
  • PERKINS HOUSE - GREEN
  • FREEMAN HOUSE - LIGHT BLUE
  • FRASER HOUSE - ORANGE

Teachers and specialists use the house point system in their classroom as a reward and incentive scheme and for activities such as indoor and outdoor games, years 4,5 and 6 sport and other group activities.  Each year students participate in the annual school cross country and athletics carnival and dress in their house colors.  Rewards are given  to students for participating and extra points are given to those who achieve excellent results.  At the end of the year the final scores are announced and the House Shield is presented to the House Captains at a whole school assembly.
