Individual attention

Our teachers are responsible for seeing to each child's individual learning needs.

Effective learning and teaching is based upon an understanding of the learner.  At Thomas Mitchell Primary School teachers use assessment and first hand knowledge of their students to identify individual needs, to differentiate instruction and to maximise learning,  Effective differentiation challenges students to meet and exceed basic standards.

At TMPS teachers differentiate curriculum by:

  • Planning and providing targeted teaching in areas of need
  • Providing scaffolded support and individual challenges for students working at different levels
  • Using a variety of whole class, individual and small group activities
  • Using a variety of visual, hands on and written activities and projects that allow for choice and negotiation
  • Using a range of assessments to evaluate students.
